The Tile Guy
Background
Rob was 42 when he came to Expert Tiling Courses UK. He had worked as a mechanical engineer for the aerospace industry since school, but had grown tired of it and needed a change. In his words “it was about time I stopped making other people rich and did something for me.”
He really wanted to run his own business and work for himself, and decided that tiling was the trade for him - due to there being no requirement for a long period of training, and relatively low start-up costs.

Rob contacted us in late 2021 and got himself booked in to our 13 Day Expert Tiling Course for January 2022. He booked local accommodation for the duration of the course and fully threw himself in to this new challenge.

Rob has now been tiling for a living for a number of years and his work has improved consistently. He is now tiling to a high standard as can be seen in the above photos. He has built up great relationships with Topps Tiles and other local suppliers and gets a huge amount of work from their recommendations.
The first week of the course was tough going and I had a lot of self-doubt to begin with. There is a lot more to tiling than just glueing squares to a wall! I decided I would message Henry that evening and explain I was struggling and that I thought maybe it wasn't for me. Henry was a great teacher and mentor and replied to me in depth that very evening and put all my concerns to bed, I can't thank him enough for that message. By the second week I was feeling much more confident and started to get excited about what the future held for me. The course was very hands on and incredibly informative. Not only was I taught all of the skills needed to complete tiling jobs, but also great advice about how to make my business successful. The course presentation was bang on and there was so much to learn. Yes it was fast paced, but Henry and Chris managed to make this fun the entire time. They offer tiling tool packages which are fantastic, and I bought the top package to get me up and running.
The first few jobs that came in I still had a little uncertainty in my own abilities but even after the course Henry was on hand to offer words of advice and encouragement which is an incredible aftercare service.
Years later and I have a steady flow of work coming in and I’m loving the different challenges each day. There is no better feeling than getting in my van each morning and heading off to earn my own money without relying on anyone else. This course hasn’t just taught me a new set of skills and a great way to earn a decent living, it has given me my life back. I now have a great work/life balance and the family as a whole are now so much happier. This course really does cover every aspect of tiling and setting up and running a business and the tiling manual you are given is brilliant - it covers everything you have learnt to take away with you to which I have referred back to many many times.
I would recommend the course to anybody, just close your eyes and hit the buy button like I did, you won't regret it!
